WHAT KIND OF PREAMP SHOULD I USE?

IS IT OK TO USE A TUBE PREAMP WITH A TUBE MIC?
Absolutely! Some of our favorite records were made this way. That one could NOT do this is an absurd myth.
IS IT BEST TO USE A TUBE PREAMP WITH MY SOLID STATE MIC?
CAN I GO LINE LEVEL IN?
Sometimes, as the output transformers for all our current mics are capable of in excess of +4dBm. However, as the mics impedances are 200 ohms, most line ins are 600r, there may be an impedance mismatch affecting the frequency response, which might be trumped by the need to avoid overload which is why you would want to use line in anyway.
WHY DO YOU SAY "MIC" INSTEAD OF "MIKE"?
Though this defies conventional phonetic American English language teaching, “mic” is short for “microphone”, the transduction if microscopic signals, and “Mike” is a guy's name.
WHAT IS THE OUTPUT IMPEDANCE OF A BOCK AUDIO MIX, AND WHAT IMPEDANCE SHOULD I SET MY PREAMP FOR?
200 ohms output, set your preamp for 2000 ohms. Avoid “low impeadance” settings on mic preamps.
